Post closing

Due to the knowledge of customers having tested positive for Covid in the last week, the VFW will be closed until the 4th of August out of an abundance of precaution for our customer’s and staff’s safety. This time will be utilized to perform extra cleaning. If you have any questions, please call the Post and leave a message and someone will return your call.

A Message from the Clubroom Manager

We want to be as transparent as possible with our customers. We will be reopening the Post today, Tuesday, August 4th for normal business hours. We are committed to keeping our staff and customers safe and healthy!

We closed the Post in order to deep clean and sanitize the clubroom and kitchen. We have several added measures in place and will continue our normal cleaning schedule as well. Our bartenders, kitchen staff and volunteers are all wearing masks for the immediate future, as well as gloves during all food preparation.

We ask that if you do not feel well, stay home. The Iowa ABD is also asking all bars to step up efforts of social distancing during this time. When you come in, try to keep to your group and practice social distancing the best you can. Please understand that we must follow these guidelines in enforcing social distancing in the Post.

We will keep everyone updated on any changes.  Thank you for your understanding and support!

We have food!! Thursday 6/4

Hey – we know it isn’t prime rib, but we have to start somewhere!!  Due to social distancing, we will not have the normal chow line that we are famous for on Thursday evening.  Instead we are in for a real treat!!  Burgers or Pork Fritters served with fries.  They will be served in to go packaging so you can eat inside, outside on the picnic tables or take them home and enjoy!!  But, make no mistake….we are back in business!  Come join us!!

Today is the big day!!

We are are very excited to announce that we will be re-opening our doors for business on Thirsty Thursday, May 28th at 1500 (3 pm). So come out to join us for a cold one! If things go smoothly, we’ll also be open Friday and Saturday and return to normal hours next week too! Here are a few things you should know.

After a very thorough cleaning process, we’ve rearranged tables and removed some of the barstools to allow for social distancing. We are limited to 1/2 our full capacity initially. If you feel sick our have a fever, please stay home until you are healthy so that everyone else can stay healthy too. If you would like to wear a mask, you may. But it is not required.

We will not have our normal Thursday meals or Friday dances yet. But we are working on some options so please check back with us often!!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the Post. See you all real soon!

Happy Memorial Day, May 25, 2020!

Memorial Day (previously but now seldom called Decoration Day ) is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Many events this weekend have been scaled back due to Covid-19. But, let us never forget those who secured the freedom we have today.

Buddy Poppy Drive – You can still Help!

Due to Covid-19, the scheduled Buddy Poppy distribution this Memorial Day was not able to be held. If you would like to show your support to the V.F.W. Post 9662, you can make a donation to our annual “Buddy Poppy” drive by sending a check to the Post at 1309 NE 66th Ave., Des Moines, IA. 50313, and write “Buddy Poppy” on the “For” line on your check. Thanks and happy Memorial Day.
